Linnet help out Dumfries and Galloway Council
Dumfries and Galloway Council has recently invested in small scale UPSs for a number of key remote sites.
The decision to take this course of action was influenced by two factors:
- A change in attitudes with regards to Business Continuity.
- The Business requirement for VOIP Telephony.
In a VOIP environment, an unexpected loss of power means that not only is a site down, but also nobody can be notified because the phones don’t work.
We recognised that it wasn’t enough just to provide a good UPS, the continued maintenance of the UPS was also essential to Business Continuity.
For this reason, the new units are being installed with mains by-pass breakers, enabling maintenance to be carried out without the power to the building being shut off. This in turn means that maintenance can be carried out during the normal office hours and can therefore be scheduled as part of a maintenance contract.
