Accompanying Jim at the event was Jas Singh of Auriga. Speaking about the revolutionary new Fuel Cell Technology which the company has recently developed, Jim, of Linnet said: “We wanted to explore the market for our product overseas and evaluate similar systems”.

The system was developed in response to the direct need for better, sustainable energy, and was primarily designed to reduce dependency on fossil fuels. In terms of benefits, one of the biggest is the system’s ability to act as a primary source of power as well as a backup.

The event attracted in the region of 26,000 visitors and included a diverse mix of leaders from the fields of politics, business, and finance – as well as academic and industry leaders from all over the world.

To showcase their work, all the exhibitors were given their own ‘pod’ on the UKTI stand, and alongside this, attendees were given the opportunity to network within the event. Of this, Jim Laughlin said: “We participated in several organised networking breakfasts, dinners, etc involving local companies and ex-pats now working in UAE.” He went on to say: “Our stand was visited by Lord Howell of Guildford, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth, who also hosted a reception for the UKTI group, of whom we were a member, at the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi.”

By all accounts, the response to this cutting-edge system has been promising, and the proof is plain to see – as a result, other countries are beginning to embrace “going green”.

The fact that representatives from the other major economies such as China, Germany and Japan have been joined by smaller nations such as Sweden, Belgium and Serbia, shows just how seriously countries are taking green growth. Additionally, the presence of a number of key star-power figures – in the form of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, South Korean PM Kim Hwang-sik and several Emirati leaders – reflects the increasing importance renewable energy has in emerging economies.

The technology in question took a total of 3 years to develop – a direct response of Linnet’s keen determination to design and manufacture, where possible, their own unique system. “This enables us to support and develop the system in the UK,” says Jim. “And as such we have the only such system in the UK.”

Following our visit to Abu Dhabi and our launch at Stirling, there has been a great deal of interest. We believe that everyone has a responsibility to protect the future of our environment, and systems such as our hydrogen unit provide a viable means of meeting the requirements laid-down both nationally and internationally.
In terms of success, and from recent feedback, the future looks very promising. Amongst other things, we are currently preparing several proposals for hydrogen systems. These have been requested by customers as a direct result of our launch in January.
The fact is this: Viable, cost-effective hydrogen fuel-cell powered systems are not a thing of the future, they are here now. We have one. It works.

Upon arrival, guests were treated to a finger-buffet of traditional Scottish Fayre – including a variety of whiskies and other sumptuous refreshments. Jas Singh from Auriga Energy and Jim Laughlin (Linnet Technology) hosted the event, which included an enlightening presentation and demonstration of the newly featured product.

After 3 years of research and development, the demonstration allowed Linnet Technology and Auriga Energy to introduce the first product of its kind to the UK market. The potential for the future and a real buzz around the possibilities the product opened up meant it was important for Linnet and Auriga to ensure that a broad range of companies were invited.

By all accounts, the launch proved to be a huge success – more than 50 individuals attended, including representatives from Turner Townsend, Wallace Whittle and Amey, alongside others from Transport Scotland and Fife Council, Babcock, Central Scotland Police, Scottish Water and many more.

With a view to publicising the product within the industry, the Linnet team have invested a great deal of attention in promotional resources. Jim Laughlin began the proceedings by attending the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.

Speaking of the Summit, Jim said: “Following the event we have been contacted by several customers to explore the use of hydrogen fuel cell solutions within their workplaces.” He went on to add that “…plans are ongoing for a return trip to Abu Dhabi to explore opportunities there.”

“In these times of recession, unemployment and economic uncertainty,” Jim continued, “Linnet are excited and hopeful that the launch of this new product will create new jobs and possibly manufacturing of parts within the UK. Concluding, he added: “Following our visit to Abu Dhabi we were pleased to learn that British workmanship continues to be held in high regard by the business community there.”
